Below is the schedule of Landscape Architecture's Centennial Kick-Off events
that took place during Cornell Alumni Weekend, June 10th – 13th.

Landscape Centennial Kick-Off Events - June 2004

Thursday, June 10: Orientation / Informal Drop-In
Early Birds If you come in to town early, stop in at 440 Kennedy Hall during the work day (9am-4pm) to say hi, get information on the events planned, sign the guestbook. Marv will be conducting his famous Site Grading Workshop. Visit the Peter Eisenmann Exhibit at Willard Straight Hall (through Sunday).
4:30 PM Lecture by Scott Peters: A New Day Coming: Liberty Hyde Bailey's Prophetic Educational Vision, Goldwin Smith Hall, Hollis Auditorium
5;30 – 6:30 PM Liberty Hyde Baily Exhibition, Hirshland Gallery, Kroch Library, Level 2B
Friday, June 11: Alumni Forum / Centennial Lecture
Welcome! The studio will be alive with presentations of student work and faculty research, as well as historic and memorable images, for you to peruse between events and over the weekend. Come meet the faculty, participate in oral histories of the program, give feedback on curricular issues, and see the interactive Freshman Fence Project on the site of old East Roberts. Events will be informal early in the day, but faculty and staff will greet you and help you get oriented and connected with friends.
2:00 – 5:00 PM Virtual Gallery and Website demonstrations. Walking tours of campus gardens and Marc Keane's Tea House Project. Depart from Kennedy Hall Studio.
4:00 – 6:00 PM Virtual Gallery and Welcome Reception, Kennedy Hall Studio. Possibly live music by our own Bret LeBleu's band, Rabble Rousers.
6:00 PM Paula Horrigan presents a book-making demonstration in Kennedy Hall Gallery.
6:45 PM Kathryn Gleason, Welcome and announcements
7:00 PM Centennial Lecture by Dan Krall, 100 Years of Landscape Architecture at Cornell. Hear the little known early history of the department, then enjoy an evening of appreciating the legacy represented in the Virtual Gallery, food, and good company on the Studio terrace. Possibly continued live music by our own Bret LeBleu's band, Rabble Rousers.
9:00 PM – 1:00 AM Tent parties, Arts Quad
Saturday, June 12: Relax and Party
7:30 – 8:45 AM CALS Alumni Breakfast, Trillium Dining, Kennedy Hall. Reservation requested.
9:00 – 10:00 AM CALS Liberty Hyde Bailey Lecture, Call Auditorium, Kennedy Hall — Steven Tanksley, Professor of Plant Breeding and Chair of the Genomics Initiative Task Force
10:30 AM President Lehman's State of the University Address,
Newman Arena, Bartels Hall
10:00 AM – Noon Landscape Architecture is hosting an Open House for all interested Cornell Alumni. If you had to miss Friday's events, stop by and browse through the presentations in the studios, and tell fellow Cornell alumni about the profession of Landscape Architecture!
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM Garden Party at Peter and Nina's wonderful house and gardens. There will be a garden tour in progress, and we will lounge around, catching up, listening to music and enjoying the beautifully designed setting -- even if it is a classically rainy Ithaca day. There will be lots of room to gather with your class or mingle with other Cornell alumni. And lots of opportunities for any alumni-inspired roasts and toasts!
4:00 – 6:00 PM (Saturday and Sunday) Fraternity and sorority events (schedule will be flexible)
4:00 – 10:00 PM Open Garden Party at Dan's. Light fare and drinks!
9:00 PM – 1:00 AM Tent parties, Arts Quad
Sunday, June 13: Plantations Tour and Farewell Reception
9:00 AM Tour of Plantations with alumna and Plantations LA, Irene Lekstutis, MLA '00.
9:00 – 11:00 AM Reception at Guy Nearing Summerhouse at the
Plantations, providing a chance for farewells.
