Peter
Trowbridge is a professor and chair in the Department of
Landscape Architecture at Cornell University. Over the past decade he has developed a unique set of
strategies to establish plantings in difficult urban and severely disturbed
sites. The result of using these
strategies
in practice has resulted in
projects which demonstrate greater plant survival and subsequently
greater success. Success can be measured in numerous
local and national awards for greenway and park planning and design. These innovative ideas in plant
establishment and design have also been used in the classroom, in a co-taught
course with Nina Bassuk, Director of the Urban Horticulture Institute at
Cornell, creating experiential learning conditions for the next generation of
the "new" professional.
